Mercedes Schlapp has no easy job in her role her position as White House adviser for strategic communication. She's faced with a president who serves as his own communications director and a myriad of legal disputes which can disrupt the administration's messaging strategy and Cabinet secretaries embroiled in their own disputes. Schlapp, however, has never lost focus on her job. She is in close contact together with White House political affairs and legislative teams along with policy shops and the wider communications department to oversee the rollout of policies. As of now she's focused on a variety of issues including school safety as well as opioid abuse. She has not had much contact with the media in her job. She did draw a flurry of attention in March when her name was floated as a potential replacement Hope Hicks as communications director. Mercedes Schlapp does not have a simple job of White House strategic communication adviser. She's faced with a president that acts as his own director of communications, multiple legal battles which could disrupt the White House's strategy for messaging as well as a host of Cabinet secretaries caught up in their own controversy. Schlapp did not change her focus, and was closely involved to work closely with White House policy and political teams. The focus of her work has been on areas such as security at schools, opioids, infrastructure, along with trade. As a director, she has not been in touch with many media. In March, she was mentioned as a person who could succeed Hope Hicks at the Communications Director position. It hasn't been an easy fight. Schlapp allied with Tony Sayegh, who was running for office. The two began fighting in the media. Schlapp claimed that after that the Washington Examiner ran a story with negative remarks about Sayegh she had a conversation with him.
